A shocking case of alleged bonded labour and inhumane abuse has come to light at a paper plate manufacturing unit in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. In a joint operation by the police and district administration, 12 workers were rescued after allegedly being confined inside the factory premises for a prolonged period.

The rescued workers alleged that they were forced to work against their will and were beaten with iron rods if they resisted. Some workers also claimed that pit bull dogs were used to intimidate them and prevent them from escaping. Medical examinations reportedly found injury marks on the bodies of several workers.

The case became even more serious after the workers alleged that one labourer had died due to the torture. Police are investigating the alleged death and are also examining the case from the angles of human trafficking, illegal confinement, and bonded labour.

Police have arrested two accused in connection with the case, while the factory owner is reportedly absconding. Special teams have been formed to trace him. Officials said strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty, and the rescued workers will be provided with the necessary assistance.
