Student Protest Intensifies in Jharkhand, Demonstration Over Alleged Irregularities in JPSC-JSSC Recruitment Exams
Ranchi: The student movement in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in government recruitment examinations and demands for transparency continues. The protest at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi entered its 12th day on August 5, 2026. Protesters are demanding an impartial investigation into matters related to JPSC, JSSC and other recruitment examinations, a transparent recruitment process, and action against those found responsible. Students have announced plans to gherao the Jharkhand Assembly on August 10 to intensify the movement.
JPSC Exam Controversy Escalates the Matter
The main focus of the controversy is the 14th JPSC Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination. After the examination results were released, candidates raised questions over alleged irregularities in the process. The matter subsequently reached the investigation stage. On July 21, the CID and Ranchi Police conducted searches at the JPSC office and related premises.
Amid the investigation, JPSC postponed several recruitment examinations, including the 14th Combined Civil Services Main Examination. Following this, then-JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte resigned from his post.
14 Arrests in CID Investigation
The Jharkhand CID, which is investigating the matter, has reported 14 arrests as of August 4. The investigation is still underway. However, the allegations and guilt of any individual can only be finally established after the investigation and judicial process are completed.

The protesters are demanding transparency in recruitment examinations, an independent investigation into the alleged irregularities, action against those responsible, and reforms in the selection process. Abhijeet Dipke Extends Support to the Protest
The Jharkhand student movement has also received support from CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke. Dipke expressed his intention to stand with the students protesting against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations and said he was committed to going to Jharkhand to support them. His support has also brought increased political and social attention to the movement.
Sonam Wangchuk Appeals to Devendra Nath Mahto
During the movement, the indefinite hunger strike by student leader Devendra Nath Mahto also remained in focus. According to reports, Sonam Wangchuk spoke to Mahto through a video call and appealed to him to take water, keeping his health in mind. Mahto subsequently took water but made it clear that his Satyagraha and the movement over the students' demands would continue.
It is important to clarify that Wangchuk's role in this development was primarily to speak with Mahto and appeal to him to take water.
