Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike has continued into its 18th day. Due to the prolonged fast, his health has been steadily deteriorating. He is experiencing muscle weakness, body pain, and has lost nearly 8.5 kilograms during this indefinite hunger strike.
Extended fasting can lead to nutritional deficiencies, muscle loss, weakness, and several other serious health complications. Therefore, his medical condition is being closely monitored by healthcare professionals.
According to Sonam Wangchuk, he wants to engage in meaningful dialogue with the government regarding his demands. He has made it clear that he will not end his hunger strike until the government agrees to begin discussions.
The hunger strike is a peaceful form of protest through which he aims to draw the attention of both the government and the nation to his demands.
Meanwhile, his supporters have urged the government to initiate talks at the earliest and resolve the issue peacefully. All eyes are now on how the government responds to the matter and when discussions begin.
In the meantime, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the High Court seeking immediate hospitalization of Sonam Wangchuk to save his life and, if necessary, permission to administer force-feeding. The court has taken a firm stance and directed both governments to respond as soon as possible.
