Social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike demanding education reforms, fell ill on Saturday. On the 21st day of his fast, Delhi Police shifted him from Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital. According to the police, the decision was taken on medical advice and in compliance with court directions.

Supporters present at Jantar Mantar protested during the police action. Some demonstrators alleged that Wangchuk was taken to the hospital against his will, while the police maintained that immediate medical attention was necessary due to his deteriorating health.

After being admitted to the hospital, doctors said that Sonam Wangchuk's condition is currently stable. However, because of the prolonged fast, he remains under continuous medical observation.

Following the incident, the atmosphere at Jantar Mantar remained tense for some time. Members of the movement said the protest would continue until their demands are met and that a decision on the next course of action would be announced soon.
