June 20, 2026: The Central Government has prohibited the manufacture, sale, and distribution of 16 fixed-dose combination (FDC) drugs with immediate effect to safeguard public health. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Health, an expert committee found that these drug combinations lacked sufficient therapeutic justification and could pose health risks to patients.
The banned medicines include combinations used in antibiotics, pain relief, dermatological treatments, and other categories. Experts concluded that the potential risks associated with these drugs outweigh their benefits, leading to the decision to withdraw them from the market.
The Health Ministry stated that the move is aimed at ensuring the safety and efficacy of medicines. Authorities regularly review pharmaceutical products and take action against those that do not meet scientific evidence and medical standards.
Health experts have welcomed the decision, saying it will help protect patients from unnecessary and potentially harmful medications while promoting rational and safe use of drugs across the country.
