Eight days after the devastating earthquake in Venezuela, a miraculous rescue operation captured the world's attention. Rescue teams successfully pulled 43-year-old security guard Hernán Alberto Gil Flores alive from the rubble of a nine-storey building. After several days of challenging rescue efforts, they managed to bring him to safety.
According to reports, the guard was on duty in the building's basement security room when the earthquake struck. Although the building collapsed, the small security room was not completely crushed, leaving a limited air pocket that helped him survive. Rescue workers first established contact with him, then supplied food, water, and liquid nutrition through a narrow passage before creating a tunnel to safely extract him.
The operation involved expert rescue personnel from Venezuela, Chile, Costa Rica, the United States, Mexico, Portugal, and several other countries. Despite massive debris, continuous aftershocks, and adverse weather conditions, the rescue mission continued for more than 100 hours.
The devastating earthquake in Venezuela claimed thousands of lives and left many more injured. In such tragic circumstances, finding a survivor alive after eight days has emerged as a powerful symbol of hope for rescue workers and affected families alike.
