Delhi-Patna Bullet Train: Journey to Be Completed in 4.5 Hours, Preparations Underway to Connect Several Cities in UP-Bihar

New Delhi: Rail travel between Delhi and Patna could become much faster in the coming years. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, while sharing information about the proposed high-speed rail corridor, said that if the plan moves forward, the distance between Delhi and Patna could be covered in around 4.5 hours. At present, the project is at the proposal stage.

Under the railway's plan, Delhi is proposed to be connected with several major cities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar through a high-speed rail network. The proposed corridor includes cities such as Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Patna. This is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and these cities compared with existing rail services.

1,170 km Journey from Delhi to Patna

According to the proposed plan, the distance of around 1,170 km between Delhi and Patna is targeted to be covered by high-speed train in approximately 4.5 hours. On the same corridor, the estimated travel time from Delhi to Agra is around 58 minutes, to Kanpur around 1 hour 50 minutes, and to Lucknow around 2 hours 12 minutes.

Besides this, the journey from Delhi to Prayagraj is estimated to take around 3 hours, while Delhi to Varanasi could take approximately 3 hours 33 minutes.

Major Cities in UP-Bihar Expected to Benefit

The corridor is expected to strengthen connectivity between Delhi and several major cities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Faster rail connectivity could benefit not only passengers but also people associated with business, tourism, education and employment.

In particular, faster access to cities such as Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Patna, which have significant tourism and religious importance, could boost tourism activities. At the same time, this connectivity could be important for people who regularly travel between Delhi and Bihar.

Next Expansion of India's High-Speed Rail Network

According to the Railway Minister, if the project moves forward, it could be an important step toward expanding India's high-speed rail network after the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor. The proposed corridor could create a network connecting Delhi with several major cities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

However, no date has yet been announced for the launch of the Delhi-Patna high-speed rail service. Therefore, the 4.5-hour journey should currently be considered only an estimated travel time under the proposed project.
