One of India's most sacred religious pilgrimages, the Amarnath Yatra 2026, has officially begun as the doors of the holy Amarnath Cave have been opened for devotees. The first batch of pilgrims departed from Jammu for the darshan of Baba Barfani and reached the Kashmir Valley amid stringent security arrangements. The pilgrimage commenced on July 3 and will continue until August 28.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration, along with the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, has made extensive arrangements to ensure a safe and well-organized pilgrimage. Thousands of security personnel have been deployed along the routes, while medical camps, rest shelters, community kitchens (langars), communication facilities, and emergency services have also been set up. The administration has clarified that only registered pilgrims will be permitted to undertake the yatra.

This year, devotees can undertake the pilgrimage through the traditional Pahalgam route as well as the shorter but more challenging Baltal route to seek the blessings of Baba Barfani. Lakhs of devotees from across the country are expected to visit the holy cave to offer prayers before the naturally formed ice Shivling.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to devotees on the commencement of the Amarnath Yatra and urged them to maintain cleanliness, protect the environment, and follow safety guidelines and discipline. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha appreciated the efforts of the administration, security forces, and volunteers for ensuring the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.

Held every year, the Amarnath Yatra is regarded not only as a religious pilgrimage but also as a symbol of faith, devotion, and spiritual strength. Despite the difficult mountain terrain and challenging weather conditions, the unwavering enthusiasm of devotees remains the defining spirit of this sacred journey.
