Bengaluru: A tragic accident occurred on Thursday morning at a stone quarry near Madapatna in the southern part of Bengaluru, Karnataka. A massive rock suddenly collapsed onto workers during mining operations, killing nine labourers on the spot. The incident triggered panic across the area, and rescue teams were immediately rushed to the site.
According to preliminary information, the workers were carrying out excavation work in the lower section of the quarry while heavy machinery was being used to remove rocks from the upper level. During the operation, a large rock broke loose and crashed down, trapping the workers beneath it. The deceased are reported to include migrant workers from the states of Bihar and Assam.
Soon after receiving information about the accident, police, rescue personnel, and administrative officials reached the site. The debris was cleared, and all the bodies were recovered. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Authorities are also examining whether the quarry was complying with the required safety standards.
The tragedy has once again raised serious concerns about the safety of workers at mining sites.
