The Central Government has increased the windfall tax on exports of diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the revised rates came into effect on June 16.

The Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) on diesel exports has been raised from ₹13.5 per litre to ₹14 per litre, while the duty on ATF exports has increased from ₹9.5 per litre to ₹12.5 per litre. However, the export duty on petrol remains unchanged at ₹1.5 per litre.

The government stated that the move aims to ensure adequate domestic fuel availability and regulate excess profits earned from exports amid rising international oil prices. Volatility in global energy markets, driven by tensions in West Asia, has been a key factor behind the decision.

Officials also clarified that there has been no change in domestic duties on petrol and diesel, meaning the decision is not expected to have a direct impact on consumers within the country.
